Every mother love's their child(ren) and looks for ways to save those precious memories to last a lifetime.  Whether you make time to personalize a scrapbook, fill in a baby memory book, make digital photo albums, document memories online at you blog site to share, etc.   One thing is for certain, those personalized memories and gifts are the best to receive!  I'm hooked to Pinterest for inspiration and these are the ideas I found to use my girls adorable little handprints.  Mother's Day is a moment to thank all those special Moms in your life and your child's Grandma is definitely tops on the list.

Happy Easter!!!

Happy Easter to all our lovely families!

 If you have walked through store aisles lately, you've seen many reminders that Easter is coming. What isn't so obvious is that, for Christians, Easter is truly the most significant day of the year.

At the store we find baskets and eggs as the symbols of Easter, instead of a cross and an empty tomb; and a bunny that brings candy instead of a Savior who brings life.

Is it any wonder that our children are more excited about the coming of the Easter Bunny than the coming of God's kingdom?

Thank You, Focus on the Family

"10 iPhone Apps for New Parents" Article

Do you have an iphone? Check out this AWESOME article that discussed 10 must have iphone apps for new parents. Some of these I didn't even know existed! A few are great for parents of toddlers too. This article is worth a read. Thanks http://www.nanny.net/ for posting!

Parenting in the internet age certainly still has its challenges, but tech-savvy parents have several options in the App Store that can help ease some of the stress. Storing important information, accessing records and even entertaining your newborn can all be done with a tap of the screen; here are ten iPhone apps that all new parents should check out.

  1. Baby Tracker: Diapers – If your pediatrician asks you to keep a record of Baby’s diapers, the Baby Tracker: Diapers app is a must-have. The simple interface includes a color swatch and texture options, and even has a Notes feature for in-depth documentation.

  2. White Noise Lite – Many parents swear by sound machines to soothe babies and help them sleep soundly; the White Noise Lite app offers several options, including nature sounds and traditional white noise. The best part? It’s free!

  3. Baby Tracker: Nursing – The folks at Baby Tracker hit another home run with their Nursing app. Mothers who choose to breastfeed can keep track of nursing times, duration and left/right nursing sides. As an extra bonus, there’s also an option for tracking bottle feedings as well.

  4. Baby Brain – Created by a team of experienced OB/GYN nurses and moms, the nap-tracking app Baby Brain helps new parents calculate ideal nap times. Entering the time and duration of baby’s daily naps help the app to analyze the information and provide estimates for when subsequent naps should occur. Parents with multiples can track more than one baby, and the interface allows for easy schedule-sharing via email with caregivers. This one is TOUGH to find but we love it!

  5. Parenting Ages & Stages – Popular magazine PARENTING offers a free app to track developmental milestones from birth to school-age, keeping it relevant for years to come. The high-tech version of the baby book.

  6. FeverMeds – Unfortunately, low-grade fevers are part of any new parent’s life. The FeverMeds app calculates age and weight to return the ideal dosage of medication to combat those fevers, and also displays pictures of over-the-counter medication boxes in order to eliminate the possibility of choosing the wrong product. It also tracks dosage time and counts down to the next scheduled dose. Another tough one to find… Sorry, but it’s great!

  7. What to Expect – Baby – Generations of moms-to-be have relied upon the wisdom of What to Expect When You’re Expecting. The beloved line of books also extends into early parenting and development. The What to Expect – Baby app makes carrying the book everywhere a snap, and also includes daily updates and trackers.

  8. BabyPhone Deluxe – Instead of packing a baby monitor for trips or carting it from room to room, consider the BabyPhone app. If noise levels in the room exceed a designated level, the app automatically dials a secondary number to alert parents.

  9. Infant Visual Stimulation – With one hundred and twenty black and white images designed to stimulate babies vision, the Infant Visual Stimulation app is a great resource for new parents.

  10. Baby Rattle 123 – Leaving Baby’s favorite rattle at home is no longer cause for concern with the Baby Rattle 123 app, which transforms your phone into a visually and auditory stimulation tool.

All new parents need some help, so it is a great idea for the iPhone to serve multiple purposes. Check out the App Store for these and other great apps for new parents. You never knew a phone could do so much.

Which Generation are YOU?

I was taking a training for work and this information was on one of my slides.  Which generation are you?  I guess I'm in the "cynical" classification...  :)  Does this apply to the people you work with??

The Workforce THINKS Differently:

  • Baby Boomers (1946-65)
    • loyal, dependable, workaholics
  • Gen Xers (1965-1980)
    • cynical & independent, reject rules
  • Gen Y (1980+)
    • short attention span, tech savvy

"Don't Carpe Diem" Article

"Don't Carpe Diem"

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Every time I'm out with my kids -- this seems to happen:
An older woman stops us, puts her hand over her heart and says something like,
"Oh, Enjoy every moment. This time goes by so fast."
Everywhere I go, someone is telling me to seize the moment, raise my awareness, be happy, enjoy every second, etc, etc, etc.
I know that this message is right and good. But, I have finally allowed myself to admit that it just doesn't work for me. It bugs me. This CARPE DIEM message makes me paranoid and panicky. Especially during this phase of my life - while I'm raising young kids. Being told, in a million different ways to CARPE DIEM makes me worry that if I'm not in a constant state of intense gratitude and ecstasy, I'm doing something wrong.
"What Makes a Babysitter a Rockstar?" article
Do you know what makes a rockstar babysitter?  Read this article from http://www.babysitters.net/ to share with a friend looking for babysitting jobs and/or your own babysitter.
"Good sitters are hard to find, so when the kids look forward to having their favorite babysitter, parents know they’ve discovered a real gem. While most parents and their children are perfectly content with mediocre sitters who do a competent job, there are some who reach real rockstar status. What makes the difference between adequate and awesome? Here are a few things that make an ordinary babysitter a rockstar.
Kids love to have a good time, so a sitter who knows how to have fun with the children is going to be a big hit. Babysitters who bring new games and will play with the kids are going to be greeted with excitement. They’ll play the children’s favorite video games with them and help them reach new levels. Of course, they also need to know when to let the kids win. Smart sitters who incorporate fun with learning will gain rockstar status with the parents as well.
Babysitters should show up cheerful, energetic and ready to keep up with young rambunctious children. They also need to have a good sense of humor. Kids love to play pranks on babysitters, so they must be able to take a joke and laugh at themselves. Sitters who can take practical jokes in stride will gain the respect of the kids and have rockstar potential.
Kids are not going to like a sitter who plays favorites, so rockstar babysitters will always be fair with all the children. These sitters take the time to find out what’s unique about each child they care for and give individual attention to each one. This is a way sitters can make each kid feel like they’re really special without alienating the rest.
Children want to believe that their babysitter is there because they really care about them and not just to make some money. Rockstar sitters are loving and caring with lots of hugs and kisses for boo-boos. They don’t let on that they’re being paid or that they sit for other families. This illusion can be shattered if kids see their parents paying the babysitter.
Don’t think for a minute that sitters can reach rockstar status by just being nice to the kids and letting them get away with anything. Children will push the limits of every babysitter to see what they can get by with. Sitters who are too lenient may be popular with the kids, but they won’t get their respect. Potential rockstars will know how to be firm and fair while enforcing the rules. This will be appreciated by both the kids and their parents.
The best sitters know that they can’t just be popular with the kids, and that it’s the parents they really need to please. It’s the parents, after all, who hire them and pay them at the end of the day. The babysitters who do a little extra plus go above and beyond the call of duty are going to earn their rockstar award from the parents. They’ll bring over books or videos for the kids to enjoy and not just show up to collect a check. These babysitters will not only clean up after themselves and the kids, but wash up the few dishes left in the sink. When parents come home to a house that’s cleaner than when they left with happy children begging the sitter to stay, they know they’ve found a real prize.
Rockstar sitters will be in demand and also get the best pay. Once they earn that reputation, they’ll have parents and kids eating out of their hand. Pretty soon the parents are rearranging their schedule to fit the sitter’s calendar and the kids are demanding that the parents go out so they can see their favorite sitter again. Life is good for rockstar babysitters."
“The First Nine Sounds Your Baby Recognizes” article
Are you curious what the first 9 sounds are that your baby recognizes?  Read this article by http://www.findababysitter.org/ to learn each sound and the full description at their site.
(click link for full article)
"New moms and dads spend a lot of time trying to interpret their babies actions and determine what was a reaction based on sheer coincidence and what was a reaction because of something they said or did. You can always tell when a new parent believes that something happened based on what they did in the knowing head nod and accompanying smile saying “yes – that just happened because I said xyz… my baby knows what’s up!”
However, it can be hard to judge when a baby responds to something because they were able to actually distinguish a certain noise or voice or if they responded simply because they saw something out of the corner of their eye or they just were hungry or fussy at the same moment as someone said or did something.
These days, when children are born in a traditional hospital setting, infants get their hearing tested before they even leave the hospital to ensure that everything is progressing the way it should be and diagnose any potential hearing problems early on. So what is it that babies really hear and recognize first?
  1. Sounds around them before their born - as early as 21 weeks during pregnancy
  2. Nearby noises - first few months
  3. Regular voices - first few months
  4. Their own voices - first few months
  5. High-pitched noises - first few months
  6. Music - right away
  7. Everyday loud noises - 6 months
  8. Quieter sounds - 9 months
  9. Names -  6 months
Watching your baby develop their hearing is an exciting time. Sounds that we typically tune out or take for granted, such as the neighbor mowing the lawn next door or the sound of a school bus or garbage truck rumbling through the neighborhood, are all sounds that are going to be new, exciting, and stimulating to your infant. As they continue to grow and mature different noises will become apparent to them, and while they may have been sleeping through the night just fine one week, the next they will be intent on determining what certain noises are. You just have to remember that, while you may be used to certain sounds, your baby is hearing them all for the first time and is trying to pinpoint what each and every new thing is.
It can be interesting and entertaining to introduce them to new noises and see how they react to them one by one – just make sure not to surround them with too many loud noises, their hearing is still delicate early on in life and you don’t want to do anything to damage that!"
"10 Signs Your Daughter is a Tomboy" article
Does your daughter avoid the Barbie Dolls and pink frilly outfits?  She may be a "tomboy" and prefer the non-traditional girlie activities.  There's nothing wrong with this preference but like the "10 Signs Your Daughter is a Tomboy" article states, "the sooner you're aware of whether this applies to your child, the easier it will be for you to adjust."  Read this informative article from www.liveinnanny.com for some tips to keep in mind.
"Sugar and spice, and everything nice may not be what she’s made of after all. But that’s OK; or at least it should be. As parents, it’s natural for us to want to raise our kids in the traditional mold, but not every kid is going to fit that mold. The sooner you’re aware of whether this applies to your child, the easier it will be for you to adjust. So let’s look at ten signs that your daughter is a tomboy.
  1. If you notice that her Barbie Doll is wearing grease paint and camouflage clothing, and has ken in a headlock, that’s a fairly good indication that she may be prefer playing “boy” games.
  2. A girl who grows up to be a so-called tomboy usually gravitates toward  boys activities as a toddler. She’ll likely have a boisterous personality, and show more interest in toy trucks or a ball than in dolls.
  3. She may come home from school one day when she’s older, toting a football helmet instead of cheerleader pom-poms. A keen interest in sports is common for a “tough girl”.
  4. If your attempts at getting her to play with dolls in spite of her obvious predilection for more boyish pursuits, don’t be surprised if her doll transforms into Xena: Warrior Princess, or for that matter, Rambo.
  5. It isn’t uncommon for a tomboy to spend a lot of time roughhousing with other boys, especially if she’s got male siblings, and will frequently display the associated badges of honor: bruises, cuts and scrapes.
  6. On dress-up occasions, you can usually anticipate that your little princess won’t stay looking all dolled up for very long. She may not enjoy the dress-up aspects of girlhood at all, in fact. Given a choice, she’ll usually go for rough-and-tumble wear over dresses and bows.
  7. Her entertainment choices may not be so feminine either. Favorite movies, TV shows, books, comic books, even role models are very apt to be those you’d associate with boys.
  8. Don’t be alarmed – or disappointed, or discouraging – if your daughter expresses a desire to pursue a career in a traditionally male-oriented occupation. It may be a passing phase, but it may also be how she’s wired, and deserves your support.
  9. Because of the male-dominated society in which we live, a tomboy daughter’s confident – and at times aggressive – demeanor will seem unsightly at times. Remember, however, that as she grows  to be a woman, this self-assuredness is by and large going to be an asset in adulthood.
  10. A tomboy will in many cases not make friends with many other girls. Likewise, she may not be altogether interested in doing so. Children grow through identity crises, peer pressures, cliques, etc. regardless of their interests. It’s not just a tomboy thing. Show your support and pride in the young person that she is, and trust in the confident woman she will grow up to become."
"10 Sneaky Ways to Turn Fruit Into Treats" article
Do your kids like veggies more than fruit like mine?  You would think it would be the opposite way around, but this article taught me 10 sneaky ways to turn fruit into treats for my girls!  Thank you www.findananny.net for such great tips!
"If you hand a kid a banana or a whole apple for a snack, you’ll usually find it under the sofa later; after they’ve eaten the bag of Cheetos. Make fruit fun and delicious, instead of boring. Fruit is the ultimate snack food. It’s sweet, full of great flavor, and mostly portable. No matter what fruit you have on hand, there is always a way to make it into a tasty, fun snack your kids will love.
  1. Bananas – Bananas are a very flexible fruit. The variety of ways to serve them is practically never ending. Frozen bananas dipped in chocolate are a fun Summer treat. Bananas and peanut butter are always a favorite. Banana splits, banana and raisins, even banana and Cheerios are all kid-friendly ways of increasing potassium levels.
  2. Apples – Caramel and candied apples are a Fall staple. Stewed apples, sweetened with honey or just a touch of sugar and cinnamon are sure to warm tummies on a cold Winter evening. Apples with peanut butter and raisins, cut into ‘fries’, or dipped in chocolate are all delicious. Homemade apple sauce is easy to make, and the kids can help. Apples are full of vitamins and fiber.
  3. Oranges – The ultimate portable snack, oranges last forever in the crisper and are mess-free in lunch kits. Tangerines are especially easy for kids to peel. Best of all, the orange skin is full of naturally skin-softening oils and pleasantly scented. Tangerines also have the advantage in being completely segmented, so kids get a perfect bite-sized section every time. Little boys love to ‘dissect’ their oranges, and every kid loves playing with their food. Full of vitamin C, oranges are great for preventing rickets. Canned mandarin oranges go great in salads and stir-fry, naturally sweetening it for picky eaters.
  4. Grapes – Every try a frozen grape? All the fun of grape popsicles with none of the mess, frozen grapes are easy to eat and taste great. You can also have ‘iced’ grapes by dampening them and sprinkling them lightly with sugar. The sugar sticks like ice crystals and makes for a beautiful, healthy snack. Try ‘mini-grapes’ or champagne grapes for a change. Kids love to eat the teeny tiny grapes and they have the same great nutrition as the larger ones.
  5. Kiwi – The ‘fuzzy’ fruit, kids love this surprising fruit import. It’s sweet but sour, just like kids love. Plus, it’s got more vitamin C than even oranges and every part is edible, though I wouldn’t recommend snacking on the furry skin. The bright green color can liven up any dish, and if you mix it with sliced apples and bananas, the high acid content will keep them from turning brown.
  6. Melons – Watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew are all sweet fiber sources. Watermelon is a low-calorie treat that can be eaten at room temperature or cold. It’s full of water, hence the name, so it is great for hydration. It also has lost of fiber and vitamins without high sugar content. Cantaloupe and honeydew have distinctive flavors that not all kids will love, but they’re full of vitamins and are soft enough for even little ones to happily gum. Turn it into melon balls and watch the kids munch away.
  7. Berries – Berries are a huge Summer hit, and they are best during that season. Kids can eat berries and cherries by the handful, and they’re full of all kinds of vitamins that are hard to find elsewhere. They’re also full of antioxidants. During the off-season, buy frozen berries and mix them in with the oatmeal in the mornings for a healthy breakfast kids will love. Berry milkshakes and berries with yogurt are also great ways to get kids into fruit.
  8. Mixed fruit – Make a fruit salad with a few mini-marshmallows and a little coconut thrown in and you’ve got yourself a great, healthy dessert. Canned pineapple bits and sweet peaches added to the mix and left to sit for an hour or so make the salad even better. The longer you let the flavors ‘gel’, the better they’ll taste. And it’s much better for kids than syrupy canned fruit cocktail.
  9. Dried fruit – Dried banana chips are a sweet alternative to candy. Dried apple rings make for a fun and chewy treat. Dried grapes, or raisins, and currents sweeten up any snack.  Dried kiwi chips are colorful and surprisingly sweet. Dried peaches smell terrible but taste great, as do dried apricots. Prunes, or dried plums, are great for digestion and sweet to eat. Grab a bag of mixed dried fruit on your next car trip and pass them out instead of chips and candy. It’ll keep the kids full longer and give them some nutrition with their snack.
  10. Fruit rolls – There are all kinds of fruit rolls. Fruit by the Foot, Fruit Roll-ups, and Fruit Leather are just a few brand names. Try to find ones with more fruit than corn syrup. The Whole Foods store usually carries some great-tasting varieties that kids will choose over candy bars or Cheetos.  Best of all, they’re individually wrapped so you can pack them in lunches or backpacks for healthy snacking.
There are all kinds of ways to disguise fruit, but the best way to keep your kids healthy in the long term is to make them aware of the benefits. If you can make fruit taste great without making it a punishment or hiding what it is, your kids will grow up with a respect for healthy snacking. Start them out eating healthy when they’re young and they’ll stick with it as adults. Remember that eating habits are formed from the start, so watch what they eat and make healthy snacking fun!"
“10 Books to Get Kids Reading Again” Article
Reading is so important for your child's education & growth at any age. Try reading these books to your child or if they are older give them one as a gift.  Read the article by www.nannypro.com to get your kids interested in reading again!
(click link for full article)
"Kids are constantly bombarded with visual images from television, movies, video games and the Internet. All this vivid imagery can make reading books seem dull and boring. Unfortunately, children who don’t read much suffer in other academic areas as well. Spelling is the area where kids who don’t read suffer the most. Reading exposes children to a wide range of words and just knowing what the words look like helps them with their spelling skills. If you know children who don’t show and interest in books, here are 10 books that could help get those kids reading.
  1. Killing Lincoln
  2. Being George Washington
  3. Harry Potter
  4. Just So Stories
  5. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
  6. Sherlock Holmes
  7. Treasure Island
  8. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
  9. Gulliver’s Travels
  10. Oliver Twist
For children who are resistant to reading, the secret is to find books that they are interested in. Stories about young people help them identify with the characters and relate to the plot. Fantasy and humor are also good ways to get kids hooked on books. Giving them a variety to choose from will help determine what genre captures their imagination. Don’t be discouraged if your first attempts don’t succeed. Once kids find the wonders available to them in books, they’ll be ready to devour every one they can get their hands on."
Start the New Year with the right Bible Reading Plan by "YouVersion.com"
Do you have a goal to read the Bible "someday?"  I've had this goal each year and just received this info in my inbox from the ***YouVersion*** website as a reminder to get started.  This site has all different types of reading plans, apps you can download to your phone, email options, etc.  Read the info below for more details and think about getting started with me.
Start New in the New Year
2012 has already started, but it’s not too late to choose a Reading Plan. (Actually, it’s never too late.) It’s only been three days. No matter which plan you choose, you can easily catch up. But you have more options, you know: Choose shorter plans from 5 days, 7 days, 14 days, 90 days—and more. Or just start a one-year plan and complete it in January 2013. All that matters is that you make it a priority to spend some time each day in God’s Word.
If it seems like we talk about Reading Plans a lot, that’s because they’ve proven to be one of the best ways to help people consistently engage with God’s Word. A Reading Plan from YouVersion helps you connect with the Bible every day by breaking each day’s reading into manageable chunks.
Delve deep into a specific topic. Meditate on what a given passage means in your life. Find practical advice for your teen. Explore parts of the Bible that we should all be familiar with. Or read the entire Bible. How you choose to read is up to you.
Your Reading Plan in Your Inbox
You can have your Reading Plan content emailed to you each day! Sign in with your free YouVersion account at YouVersion.com. Select My > Reading Plans. Click the Plan you want emailed. Select Settings. Set Email delivery to “On.” And save your settings.
Don’t Forget: Reminders
On many of the Bible App’s platforms, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Android, you can tell your Reading Plan to pop up a notice to remind you to read each day. When is the best time of day for you to read? Morning? Lunch time? Before bed? Just go to your plan’s Settings, turn on Reminders, and set it for when you want to be reminded.
Did You Know?
If you get behind on a Reading Plan—everybody does sometimes—it’s really easy to reset it. Simply go to your plan’s Settings and look for the Catch Me Up button. When you select Catch Me Up, the Bible App resets your reading for today to the last day of reading you completed. For more specific instructions, visit our Technical Support website, select your preferred language at the bottom, choose your device type at the right, and then look under “Plans.”
"7 Reasons Silence is Important for Kids" by eNannySource.com
Here's "7 Reasons Silence is Important for Kids" to support your reason to offer your kids a "Quiet Time" in the afternoon if they think they are done napping.  Refer to www.eNannySource.com for the full details.
"Quiet time can be hard to come by in a house full of children, but it is important for your kids’ well being. Whether the time is spent relaxing and decompressing from an eventful day or focusing on homework, your children should have an uninterrupted block of time worked into their daily routine where they can find complete silence. Turning off televisions, cell phones and MP3 players should be strictly enforced, and here are some of the reasons why.
  1. Kids Get Stressed Out, Too
  2. Quiet Time Can Help Control Symptoms of ADD/ADHD
  3. The Pursuit of Individual Interests
  4. Improving Sleep Patterns
  5. Preserving Parents’ Sanity
  6. Quiet Time Can Be Family Time
  7. Escaping The Demands of Siblings
Tailoring your Quiet Time to the needs of your family is essential to success; there are no one-size-fits-all solutions.
