In our opinion, the greatest gift the girl's grandparents give our family is free babysitting! Our family is blessed to have both sets of grandparents living nearby to help with our twin 3 year old twins and 2 month newborn. There's no gift we could ever give them back that could show them how much their help means to the sanity of our family. During grandparent appreciation month we're trying a few new activities we saw from Pinterest to make some homemade gifts. Here's a few craft ideas for you to try at home with your kiddos to make some special gifts from the heart.
1) Canvas Painting. Go to Michael's craft store (or online at Amazon.com) and buy some canvas boards, put little dabs of paint on the canvas (one color at a time), and then let them have fun painting a masterpiece to hang on Grandma's wall. Our girls loved this activity and the pieces turn out pretty abstract and neat looking.
2) Make a hand/footprint stone keepsake for their garden. All you need is to mix 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup flour, 1/.4 cup (give or take) water, and add food coloring if you'd like. Knead until dough forms. Make impression. Bake at 200 for 3 hours. Then let cool.
3) Flower cards. Have the kids paint their hands and make a handprint flower thank you card.
We're finding that anything the girls make just melts their grandparents hearts so get creative & have fun this month to make those homemade gifts for the grandparents in your lives. Have a wonderful May!!
